Celebration Of Service Friday (#13)

“O beautiful for heroes proved, in liberating strife, who more than self their country loved, and mercy more than life!”

May I have 3:49 minutes of your time?

Mr. Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful.  His rendition is a moving tribute. Close your eyes and listen.

America the Beautiful (by Katherine Lee Bates)

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness,
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

  1. I’ve always loved that rendition, Dr. Lynn. Thanks for posting it up!

    1. I just love the way Ray Charles sings the song!

  2. Are you on Google Plus, Doc?

    1. Good afternoon! I’m not on Google Plus. According to my 17 year old, I’m hopelessly out of touch with the modern world! I did have a Facebook account at one time but didn’t really enjoy it so I deleted it. Hope you’re having an excellent weekend!
