Old School

I tell people that it makes your gym life more interesting when you add new exercises into the mix.  Who wants to do the same things day after day…or in my case year after year?  That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be judicious in what newfangled moves or fresh routines you adopt.  You can find seemingly sane exercise enthusiasts doing things they probably shouldn’t.  For instance…

Ummmm….this move has disaster written all over it.  Perhaps that couple really never wanted children anyway…

There’s no shame in sticking with traditional, old school exercises.  They’re traditional for a reason…they WORK.  Those bench presses, deadlifts, bicep curls, squats and calf raises will never fail you.  They can get boring but beware what you try to augment/replace them with.  Not every substitution is a good idea!

    1. We had a lot of blue-belly lizards where I used to live. During mating season, when a girl lizard came close, the boys would all start doing pushups (showing those pretty belly stripes, I presume)! I’m not kidding. I used to watch them out of my kitchen window and think how much like human males they were! Ha, ha….

      1. We can’t help it Doc … We’re freaks of nature.

      2. Yep…and the ladies love it so it all works out perfectly in the end!
